How qrakr works, plainly
How it works
- How does a qrakr tag work?
- You stick a qrakr QR tag on something and link it to that item in your account. Whoever finds it scans the tag with any phone camera (no app, no account), sees your message for finders, and contacts you through a private chat. You get an email the moment they do.
- What does a finder see, and never see?
- Only what you choose to show: the item, your message to finders and any instructions. Never your phone number, your email or your name, unless you write them there yourself. Messages run through qrakr both ways, so you never see theirs either.
- Can I move a tag to a different item?
- Yes. Link it to another item in your account and the same printed code starts pointing there. Nothing needs reprinting.
- What happens if I mark an item as lost?
- Its found page says the item is missing, so anyone who scans it knows you are looking for it. Mark it found again when it is back.
Privacy
- Can found pages be found on Google?
- No. Found pages are kept out of search engines on purpose, because a found page describes someone’s belongings. The only way to reach one is to scan the tag.
- Do you share my location?
- Never on its own. In the chat, either of you can choose to share where you are right now (where it was found, or where to meet), and only that one point is sent. Photos sent in the chat have their location data stripped.
- Can I delete my account and my data?
- Yes, any time, from Settings in your account. It takes effect immediately and cancels any subscription. You can also email [email protected].
Plans and tags
- Is qrakr free?
- Yes. The free plan includes private chat with finders and email alerts, for a few tags. Personal Pro adds more tags, text alerts with SMS replies, the option to offer finders a reward, and masked calls: a finder gets a temporary number that connects to you for a short time, and neither of you sees the other’s real number.
- Where do I get tags?
- Make one in your account and print it at home for free. Printed weatherproof sticker packs are coming to the qrakr shop for Canada; each sticker has its own PIN, so only the person holding it can set it up.
- Where does qrakr work?
- Accounts are for people in the United States and Canada. Anyone, anywhere, can scan a tag and contact you.
